Is ELEX worth it?
ELEX is worth it if…
- you liked Gothic or Risen and want that old-school, no-hand-holding RPG feel
- you want a world where factions react to what you do and quests can fail or twist
- you enjoy earning your power, even if the first ten hours hurt
- you can forgive stiff animations in exchange for atmosphere and freedom

A world where a knight can shoot an orc out of the sky
Magalan should not work: berserkers grow magic in fields, clerics fire lasers in the name of their god, outlaws sell scrap and grenades from the same kiosk, and the Albs march south with plasma weapons and no feelings left. Somehow it does. A comet brought Elex to the planet, and every faction bends it to its own philosophy: purify it into mana, burn it for technology, or consume it raw for power at the cost of everything human. You start as Jax, an Alb commander betrayed and cast down, weak and alone in a world that will kill you in two hits. That is not a bug, it is the point: you are nobody, and you claw your way up.
The jetpack changes how you explore
There are no loading zones and no invisible walls. If you can see a ruin on a cliff, the jetpack can get you there, and the world is hand-built to reward that: every location was placed by hand, with loot and small stories tucked into places you would only find by climbing where the road ends. The catch is that the world does not scale to your level. Wander too far too early and something with three times your health will teach you humility. Stick to the towns and roads at first, then push outward as you grow. Reaching a place that once meant death is one of the quiet pleasures of the long game.
