Is The Technomancer worth it?
The Technomancer is worth it if…
- you want a story-driven sci-fi RPG where choices genuinely change how things play out
- you can forgive some jank in exchange for an ambitious world and good writing
- you enjoy building a character across multiple combat styles and skill trees
- you like RPGs with companions, romances and quests you can talk or fight your way through

Fighting with three styles and a storm in your hands
Combat runs on three stances: a staff for sweeping through crowds, a knife and pistol for staying quick and mobile, a shield and mace for soaking up punishment. On top of that sit the Technomancer's electrical powers, which hit hard and hit wide. You level across four skill trees, so a build can lean on blade work, on storm-calling, or mix both. Players who stick with the combat say it turns challenging at higher difficulty: you learn to parry and dodge rather than mashing attack, and winning feels earned. Loot, buy and craft better weapons and armour for yourself and your teammates, and crafting changes how your gear looks as well as its stats.
A story where Mars answers to you
The plot is the reason to be here. You play a Technomancer crossing a terraformed but broken Mars, torn between cities, corporations and factions, with mutant creatures infesting the wastes between. Quests can be solved through diplomacy, combat or trickery, and the world reacts to what you decide. The story builds chapter by chapter, and companion quests are more than filler: each companion has their own motives and secrets, and relationships with them open new pathways and quests, including romances. The soundtrack deserves a mention too, running from grim city ambience to driving electronic tracks when fights break out.
What should you know before playing?
Can you play it solo?
Yes, it is a singleplayer action RPG from start to finish. Companions travel with you and fight alongside you, but this is your story: you make the calls, and the fate of Mars rests on your decisions.
How long is the game?
A full playthrough that covers the main story and side quests runs well past 20 hours, and players who explore thoroughly and chase every companion quest report far more. The story is split into chapters that grow deeper as they go.
How rough is the combat, really?
It takes a while to click. Early on you cannot get away with spamming attacks, and on higher difficulties enemies punish careless play hard. Once you learn each stance's parries and dodges, fights become manageable, but expect a learning curve in the first hours.
Is there anything to watch out for?
The game sends you back through areas you have already visited, often with enemies respawning in familiar spots. If repeated backtracking wears on you, take it in shorter sessions; the story is worth pacing yourself for.
