Precision platforming with a grappling hook
Every map is an obstacle course built around one idea: your grappling hook. You swing across gaps, climb tunnels and mountains, and chain jumps where a single mistimed press sends you back to the start. The controls take minutes to pick up and a long time to truly master, which is exactly the point. A map that looks impossible on day one becomes routine after enough practice, and finishing a section you have failed fifty times feels better than most games' endings. It is fast, exacting, and honest: the game never blames anything but your fingers.
Cooperation that actually matters
This is not co-op where everyone plays side by side. On many maps you genuinely need each other: teammates hold switches, carry each other across sections, and pull you out of trouble at the last second. One player saves you from certain death; another leaves you in the dust without a backward glance. Both are part of the fun. With up to 64 players on a single map, a run turns into a small, chaotic society of helpers, show-offs and people falling into the same pit for two hours.
A lobby full of new friends
If you want a game to hang out in with other people, DDNet is built for it. Servers on every continent are all connected, so you always find someone to play with, whether it is your best friend or a stranger from the other side of the world. You join a server, pick a map, and work through it together, and the community has a reputation for helping newcomers learn the ropes.
What else should you know?
Can you play DDNet solo?
Yes. The game is built around cooperation, but nothing stops you from joining a server alone: you will be playing alongside strangers within seconds, and many maps can be attempted on your own. That said, the hardest maps are designed with teamwork in mind, so some content is best enjoyed with other people, whether friends or whoever is in the lobby.
How hard is it really?
Very. This is a precision platformer that asks for skill, coordination and practice, and the learning curve is steep: the first hours can be rough. The flip side is a very high skill ceiling, and progress is real. Maps that felt impossible become doable, and finishing one after a long struggle is a feeling few games give you.
How many maps are there?
Thousands, and the collection keeps growing. The community builds custom maps in the level editor and adds new ones every month, ranging from beginner-friendly courses to challenges that take days to beat. You will not run out.
Can you compete against other players?
Yes. Official servers around the world are all connected, so you can compare ranks with players everywhere and race for worldwide records. Beating a map is one thing; beating your friend's time on it is another.
