Draw cards and dodge the blast
The rules fit on a napkin. You draw a card each turn and hope it is not an Exploding Kitten. If one lands in your hand, you need a Defuse card or you are out, and the last player left takes the win.
That simplicity leaves room for scheming. You read the table, hold back your Nope cards, decide when to risk a draw and when to force someone else to draw instead. Matches stay short, the deck turns on one unlucky pull, and the animations give every explosion and blocked attack a little extra sting.
Avatars, outfits and sharp-edged trash talk
You get your own avatar to dress up in different outfits, minus the cat hair. It is purely for style, which feels right in a game about looking calm while everything blows up.
You can also personalise your emoji set, so your reactions land exactly how you want when you cancel a friend’s plan or survive a draw you should not have survived. The cards carry the series’ quirky humour, now with sleeker animations that make a well-timed Nope feel even better.
How do you play it?
Can you play it solo?
Yes. You can play alone against AI opponents, which is a good way to learn the cards and get used to the timing before you face actual friends with grudges.
How do you win a match?
Avoid drawing an Exploding Kitten without a way out. If you draw one and have a Defuse, you stay in. Survive longer than everyone else and you are crowned the winner.
What do Nope cards do?
They cancel another card, which makes them perfect for stopping a Defuse, an attack or any plan that was about to work. Saving one for the right moment is half the game.
Can you play with friends online?
Yes, online play with friends is the main event. Short rounds, shifting decks and plenty of betrayals make it work well as a party game you can repeat without much setup.
