Gunplay that asks something of you
The weapons are lethal and the handling is realistic, so fights end fast and sloppy hands pay for it. You slide into cover, line up a shot with both hands on the gun, and one clean burst can settle a duel. Loadouts are customizable: pick your weapons and gadgets before the match, then adapt when the plan falls apart. Objective-based modes give the firefights a purpose beyond the scoreboard, and the AI is challenging enough that offline free-roam against bots is a real practice ground, not a placeholder. A shooting range serves as a hub area with tons of activities, so you can warm up your aim before anyone shoots back.
The mod scene is the real arsenal
Mod support lets the community build custom maps, loadouts and game modes, and they have used it. Whole new settings, classic maps from older shooters, pistol-only rounds on small maps, zombie modes: the workshop turns one game into many. The built-in modes hold their own too, with zombie and normal survival for up to four players and co-op missions for the same crew. Spatial voice chat means you can actually talk tactics mid-fight instead of typing, and the full body IK system tracks your movement so crouching behind cover actually puts you behind cover. One honest note: online servers can be laggy at times, which matters most in competitive matches.
Questions before you lock in?
Can you play it solo?
Yes. There are co-op missions and survival modes built for groups of up to four, but offline free-roam against bots works on your own, and the AI is challenging enough to be worth fighting. The shooting range hub is also there for solo practice whenever you want to test a new loadout without pressure.
How does the gun handling work in VR?
It is realistic and hardcore: weapons are lethal, so fights are decided by how well you actually handle the gun in your hands. If you own a physical gunstock, the game supports it, and there is a calibration tool plus Virtual Gunstock support to get the aiming feeling right. The full body IK system tracks your body too, so how you stand and move matters.
Is the multiplayer still active?
The player base is smaller than it once was, so popular lobbies fill up but quieter modes and servers can sit empty, and server lag comes up often enough to matter in competitive play. If you have a regular group for co-op or survival, or you mostly play mods and offline bots, the smaller crowd matters far less.
What makes the mods worth trying?
The modkit lets creators build custom maps, loadouts and entire game modes, and the community has been busy with it: new settings, remade classic maps, pistol-only modes, zombie maps and more. The newest update improved UGC mod support, so community content is a core part of the game rather than a side dish.
