From wooden shacks to skyscrapers
You start with almost nothing and buy land, build houses, and collect rent until you can afford grander places. Simple shacks grow into mansions, casinos and towering skyscrapers, plus monuments and commissions that bring in extra pocket change.
With 147 buildings to choose from, you decide what kind of town to make. You place homes, fit yards and decorations around them, and match each tenant type to the house and gadgets they want. Get it right and the rent keeps flowing.
Tenants, rivals and dirty tricks
Your town fills with cheating landlords, bad tenants, laid-back hippies and angry thugs, all with demands you have to manage. You breed work crews to build, repair and defend, and you keep the Housing Authority off your back by keeping the city up to scratch.
Rivals want what you have. You can play fair or call in the mob, send in hit men, or loose giant mutant cockroaches on an enemy estate. You drop a pool hall of rowdy hooligans near a rival street and watch their tenants suffer, then buy up the pieces.
Lots of ways to build
There are 65 pre-built city scenarios with different objectives, plus brain-testing story missions that tell you what to build and when. A greatly improved classic mode keeps the traditional rules for old fans, and the setup is updated to get you building fast.
You can also develop out in the countryside or as far away as the moon. The look is bright and isometric with a retro touch, and the tone stays dry and British throughout. It has a real learning curve, and early games often fall apart while you learn the systems.
What else should you know?
How big is the game compared to the older version?
Much bigger. It has 147 buildings, which is 93 more than previous versions, plus 65 scenarios, story missions, classic mode, and new countryside and moon settings.
Can you play it solo?
Yes. It is single-player, built around scenarios, story missions and classic mode where you build against computer-controlled rivals.
Is it hard to learn?
Yes, at first. You manage land, houses, tenants, gadgets, crews and rivals at once, and tenants complain often. Turn computer rivals off for your first town while you learn the ropes.
