Life as a pirate captain
You are a captain out for revenge on Blackbeard, pulled into a war between empires, pirate clans, and dark powers. You gather food and materials, cook buffs, brew potions, and craft gear to stay alive. You move between ship and shore without loading, from trading shots at range to closing in and boarding. Afterward you loot the wreck, split the spoils, and keep sailing with your crew.
Ships, cannons, and boarding
You command and customize your own ship, from a nimble ketch to a versatile brig and a heavy frigate. Naval fights turn on your calls: hold distance and trade cannon fire, or come alongside and send your crew over the rail. You equip guns and hull upgrades to match how you like to fight, then claim what is left floating and sail on.
Building a foothold ashore
You pick a spot in varied biomes and build it up your way, from a simple shelter to a large house or a full fort. You place workbenches, plant crops that grow over an in-game day, and recruit people to your settlement to speed up gathering and crafting. You trade with factions for an edge, repair your kit, and head back out stocked for the next crossing.
Fighting and dungeons on land
You fight with sabers, rapiers, halberds, greatswords, pistols, and muskets, chaining strikes while you parry and dodge. You shape the style with talents, loadouts, and armor sets, then test it against wildlife, rival crews, and bosses guarding better loot. More than 100 hand-made dungeons and points of interest hold quests, secrets, and treasure for those willing to walk in armed.
What else should you know?
Can you play Windrose solo or with friends?
Both. It is fully playable solo offline, and co-op supports up to 8 players with self-hosted and dedicated servers. The developers note that parties of up to 4 give the smoothest experience, especially late in the game.
How does progression work across the map?
You explore procedurally generated biomes, clear dungeons, finish quests, gather resources, and upgrade weapons, armor, and ships. Stronger regions and bosses ask for better gear, so each new stretch of islands is a fresh test of your loadout and crew.
What is combat like on land and at sea?
On land you mix melee and firearms, parry, dodge, and use food and potion buffs against enemies and bosses. At sea you outfit your ship, trade cannon fire, then board weakened vessels to finish the crew and take the loot.
