$9.99Windward
Windward hands you a ship on a procedurally generated sea and lets you decide what it's for: trade cargo, run quests, hunt pirates, or just sail. It's easy to pick up, pleasant to look at, and built for short sessions or long ones, alone or with friends. One more delivery, then one more fight.
Is Windward worth it?
Windward is worth it if…
- you want a game that fits into ten minutes or five hours, whichever the evening allows
- you'd rather trade, quest and explore than follow a story
- you like unwinding with something undemanding: gentle music, pretty water, no punishing failure
- you enjoy chasing better gear and bigger ships across many playthroughs
- you want a relaxed co-op game to play with friends on your own server

A sea that is yours alone
Every world is generated fresh, so no two maps play the same. Towns grow where trade and quests feed them, pirates wait in the uncharted edges, and the AI plays by your rules: it explores and adapts just like you do. The further you sail from your starting point, the tougher things get, and the better the rewards.
You pick a faction (or go pirate), then watch the map shift around your choices. Supply a town's needs and it prospers, unlocking better upgrades and bigger ships. Build a fearsome reputation and the AI takes notice: some captains come to challenge you, others steer well clear. Each run branches differently, which is why it holds up over many playthroughs.
Ships, gear and growing stronger
Your ship is your lifeline, and the choice matters. A fast Schooner is the thing for scouting unknown waters; a massive Ship of the Line wins fights by simply outgunning everyone. As towns prosper you unlock heavier hulls and stronger equipment, and loot from pirate bosses pushes your stats further.
Combat is simple and satisfying: line up your broadside, dodge theirs, and time your special cannonades. Basic attacks fire on their own, so the real game is positioning and skill timing. It's an arcade feel rather than a simulation, which keeps fights quick and the loop tight: fight, loot, upgrade, sail somewhere new.
Sailing with friends
Windward works solo, but it's built to be shared. You can join public servers or host your own, then work together to expand your influence, take on dangerous foes, and build a thriving faction. A friend on the cannons changes a pirate hunt from a chore into an evening.
There's a nice social ripple too: as your reputation grows, friendly AI captains may choose to follow and assist you, so even a small crew starts to feel like a fleet. Sessions are casual and low-pressure, easy to jump into for a round of trading or a shared raid, and just as easy to leave when the tea goes cold. One honest note: the public servers are quiet these days, so plan on playing with people you know.
