Upgradeable guns and exploding rooms
You work through alien-infested streets and bases with a high-tech arsenal: pistol, shotgun, minigun, flamethrower, grenade launcher, laser rifle, and more. Each weapon takes multiple upgrades, like Fuel Trap for the flamethrower, Poison Grenades for the grenade launcher, and Pinpoint Laser for the laser rifle.
Fights are close and messy. Glass shatters, trees fall, barrels explode, and furniture blows apart, and you can turn that destruction against the horde. The weapons and their upgrades are a highlight, with each gun suited to a different kind of trouble.
Light, shadow, and things that bite
Shadowgrounds runs on light and dark. Realistic lighting throws long shadows across the colony of New Atlantis and a secret military base, and your flashlight matters: some aliens react to it, so using it well can turn a fight.
You check security cameras and computer logs to piece together where the aliens came from, fight beside NPC allies, and face enormous bosses that soak up punishment. The lighting is a highlight, and the mix of quiet ambient music and hard action tracks keeps the fear and the rush side by side.
Good to know?
Can you play it solo?
Yes. You fight through the story alone, sometimes backed up by NPC allies against the larger hordes. There is also co-op on one computer with split keyboard or joystick, if you want company.
How do the weapon upgrades work?
You collect upgrades that add powerful modifications to each gun, changing how it handles crowds and tough monsters. Ammunition is limited for most weapons, so switching guns and spending upgrades to cover different ranges matters.
What do you actually do besides shooting?
You move between objectives across varied locations, check security cameras and computer logs for clues about the alien origins, and use light and destructible cover to survive. Corpses stay where they fall, which makes old battlefields easy to read.
