Disturbed Dying was the easy part

A farmer with nothing left makes choices that decide how his story ends.

Is Disturbed worth it?

Disturbed is worth it if…

  • you like dark, heavy stories about despair and what a person does when hope runs out
  • you want a short horror visual novel that fits in one evening, not a weekend
  • you enjoy trial-and-error routes where wrong choices are deaths worth discovering
  • you like hand-drawn, black-and-white art with a grimy, uneasy atmosphere

Choices with consequences

This is a choose-your-own-adventure at heart: you read, you click, and you decide. Von's farm is failing, the plague has taken his crops and livestock, and he has concluded that death is a matter of how and where. From there, every choice steers the story somewhere new. There are many endings, and most of them are deaths, each with its own scene. Picking wrong is not a game over to groan at; it is a way of mapping the world's cruelty, one mistake at a time. When a run ends, you know there is another path you have not tried, and the instinct to start over arrives fast.

A look drawn by hand

Every illustration is hand-drawn, in a grimy black-and-white style that was made to unsettle. Nothing here is polished for comfort: the sketchy, unkempt linework is the point, giving the farm, the fields and the ruins a decaying personality of their own. The atmosphere leans on organ music in the vein of old churches, heavy and slow, so the dread builds quietly while you read. Fog and darkness wrap the places you wander through, and each screen feels composed rather than thrown together. It is a small game with a strong sense of its own look, and the mood it builds is its best asset.

Hard to survive

Fair warning, said plainly: finding a good ending is difficult. You will die often, sometimes for reasons that only make sense afterwards, and the puzzle is figuring out which decisions keep Von breathing and which ones do not. The game rewards patience and attention, since small details are easy to miss and the story explains little. If you like working a mystery out by paying close notice and dying usefully, this friction is part of the appeal rather than a flaw.

How long does a playthrough take?

Is it really scary, or just sad?

Both, in a quiet way. It leans on dread and a feeling that something is wrong rather than jump scares or monsters, and its themes of depression and addiction give the horror a personal, heavy edge. You feel vulnerable more often than you feel chased.

Is there anything to do besides reading?

Yes. It is point-and-click interactive fiction: you explore locations, solve puzzles to get further, and pick options that branch the story. There is no combat and no inventory management, so the thinking is in the choices, not the mechanics.
