BioShock™ A sunken city that fights back
Survive a ruined underwater utopia by shooting, hacking and rewriting your own DNA, while its story unfolds around every corner.
Is BioShock™ worth it?
BioShock™ is worth it if…
- you want a shooter where the story and the place matter as much as the shooting
- you like mixing powers, weapons and a hostile environment instead of one fixed way to fight
- you enjoy exploring a world that tells its story through what you find, not just cutscenes
- you can handle a dark, tense, occasionally frightening atmosphere

Rapture, a utopia gone under
It is 1960. Your plane goes down over the ocean, and the only way out is a lighthouse with a bathysphere inside, waiting to take you down. The art deco halls, the propaganda posters, the neon bleeding into seawater: it is gorgeous and it is wrong, and the more you explore, the clearer it becomes what happened here. The city's inhabitants overdosed on ADAM, a genetic material that grants powers, and tore themselves apart. Now the halls belong to the mad, the mutated and the things that guard them.
Guns, plasmids and everything in between
The arsenal runs from revolvers to grenade launchers and chemical throwers, but the real weapon is you. Inject plasmids and your body stops playing fair: send fire from your fingertips, freeze an enemy solid and finish them with a wrench swing, or blast electricity into water to cook everyone standing in it. You can even hatch a swarm of hornets from your own arms. Hack turrets and cameras to fight for you, craft new ammo variants, upgrade your weapons, and set traps in a world where fire, water and the environment itself are all fair game. No encounter has to play out the same way twice.
What should you know before playing?
Can you play it solo?
Yes, it is a singleplayer game from start to finish. The whole campaign is built around one player moving through Rapture alone, and that solitude is part of how it works: the empty halls and the things moving in them land harder when nobody else is there.
How long does it take to finish?
Expect roughly 10 to 12 hours for a first run, based on how long players commonly report. If you chase every audio diary, weapon upgrade and secret, it stretches further. There are also two endings, so a second run can play out differently.
Is it scary?
It is tense and unsettling more than jump-scare horror. The dread comes from the place itself: dark corridors, distorted figures shuffling ahead, and the heavy thud of a Big Daddy somewhere nearby. If grim, oppressive atmosphere puts you on edge, it will get under your skin.
