Is RuneScape ® worth it?

RuneScape ® is worth it if…

  • you like slow, open-ended MMORPGs you shape yourself
  • you like story-rich quests with lore and odd, memorable characters
  • you like leveling skills, collecting loot, and pottering at your own pace
  • you like playing solo but with other people around

Choose what kind of hero to become

There is no class to pick. You level 29 skills and decide what matters, from Woodcutting, Fishing, Herblore and Cooking to Crafting, Farming, Smithing and Construction, or stranger paths like Hunting, Divination, Invention and Runecrafting.

You might spend an evening quietly tending your farm, then run your own port, then keep the profits safe in the Bank. It works well as a second-screen game, something to tend while you chat.

Quests with stories, not errands

Gielinor is in its Sixth Age, with legend and lore behind it and the Elder Gods still scheming while war looms. The quests carry that weight, with memorable faces from lovable companions and friendly rogues to deceitful villains and vengeful gods.

You travel from the medieval castles of Burthorpe to the tranquil harbours of Catherby, the barren Wilderness, and the tropical reaches of Anachronia. You can spend a night at the circus between daring quests. The story is strong, and the soundtrack carries you along.

Fight close, far away, or with magic

Combat is your call. You get up close with a sharp blade, take a tactical approach from range, or work with more mystical skills through Magic, Summoning, Slayer and Dungeoneering.

You face demons, dragons, rock monsters, serpents, and a long list of epic bosses. You might risk it all against a high-level boss for loot, or learn the fights slowly one kill at a time. Point and click keeps it approachable, while boss mechanics reward attention.

A living world you share

Character customization lets you look like yourself, or at least like the hero you had in mind. Regular livestreams and forums keep players connected to the development team, and ideas move back and forth. It is a casual, low-pressure place to return to for years.

Good to know?

How do skills work?

There are 29 skills to master, split between gathering and making, exploration, and combat. You might perfect Woodcutting and Fishing to feed Cooking and Herblore, or focus on Crafting, Farming, Smithing and Construction to build and supply yourself.

What is combat like?

It is point-and-click action where you choose blade, range, or magic. Foes range from goblins to demons, dragons, rock monsters, serpents, and large bosses, so you can grind easy fights or test yourself against nightmares that need real preparation.

Can I play alone?

Yes. You can quest, train skills, run a farm and port, and fight many bosses as a lone adventurer. Multiplayer is there when you want it, for trading at the Grand Exchange, grouping up, or just meeting the odd generous stranger.
