A murdered hero and a prophecy in ruins
The story sets a grim stage. The Great Dragon, greatest fighter of his age, kept the land safe for twenty years after the dark days of the Twelve Demons. Then he was found dead, and the evidence pointed at his wife, who was no warrior at all. She was found cradling his body, whispering that the Twelve of them have returned. Panic spreads through the land: if the Twelve Demons have climbed out of their graves, heaven and earth are in danger, and the prophecy promised safety only for as long as the hero lived. Somebody has to step up. That somebody is you.
The grind, and why people stay in it
This is a grinding MMO in the plainest sense: kill mobs, pick up drops, level up, repeat. It reaches 250 levels, so there is a long road ahead, and pets can train while you stand still. Six characters are available, and you pick a class at level 10. The look is old, the Chinese style and martial arts skills still read well for a game of its age, and gear changes your appearance with it. Playing with friends helps, and there are kind people around who will answer a new player's questions when the game itself explains little.
Questions before you start?
Can you play it solo?
You can. Much of the game is solo grinding by nature, and playing with friends makes it more fun, but nothing stops you from levelling alone. New players who ask questions in chat tend to find helpful veterans.
How old does it look and feel?
Old, and it is honest to say so. The graphics date back to another era of MMOs, the interface has quirks, and gear and weapons are restricted by gender. If you go in expecting a modern production, you will be disappointed. If you want a game from that era, it delivers one.
What is the story about?
The Great Dragon, the land's greatest fighter, is murdered, his wife is the suspect, and her last whispers suggest the Twelve Demons have returned. A new hero has to rise, and that is where your journey starts.
