- you like facing ghosts head on rather than hiding from them
- you enjoy old school puzzles that make you think before they make sense
- you prefer a short, atmospheric horror night over a hundred hour commitment

Fighting ghosts with a camera
Linda has no weapons. Her phone and an SLR camera are the only things that hurt what stalks the town, so every fight is a matter of nerve: switch to camera view, find the ghost, and hold your ground long enough to take the shot. Some spirits fall to a few well-timed photos, others hide their weak point or demand a specific item first. The camera view is also the only way to see some of them at all, which means the safest place to be is often the one where you are most exposed. The fights stay simple, no upgrades or loadouts, and the tension comes from how close you let something get before you press the button.
Indonesian folklore and a town full of secrets
This is horror with its own mythology. The ghosts and legends come from Indonesian folklore rather than the usual western lineup, and the town itself carries that setting in its architecture, its posters and its decay. Clues about what happened here arrive as handwritten notes and old newspaper clippings, and the puzzles blocking your path tie into the town's history. Exploration pays off too: side areas hide extra encounters you can miss entirely if you stick to the main road. The sound design does a lot of the work, with music that shifts sharply and noises you cannot always tell apart from something creeping up behind you.
How long does it take to finish?
How long does DreadOut take to finish?
It is a short game. The main journey runs through Act 0, the prologue, and Acts 1 and 2, and a straightforward playthrough comes in around four to five hours. Exploration and the optional encounters stretch it a little, but this is a one-evening or two-evening horror experience, not a long haul.
Do you fight ghosts or just run from them?
You fight them, with a camera instead of a gun. Linda photographs spirits to destroy them, and some encounters have their own rules, like a single weak spot or an item you need to find first. Getting knocked down is not the end either: she wakes in a kind of limbo and the fight continues.
Is it too scary to play at night?
It is genuinely unsettling, with jump scares, ghosts that call your name and long stretches of near silence, but it is not built on punishing you. The scares come from atmosphere and creature design rather than harsh death penalties, so it suits anyone who wants dread without brutal difficulty.
Can you play it solo?
Yes, it is a singleplayer game from start to finish. You follow Linda alone through the town, and the story of her classmates and her own emerging powers unfolds around that solitary exploration.
