From provincial governor to Caesar
You start small: a newly formed province at the edge of the empire, a few roads, a budget, and Rome watching. Do well and the empire hands you new provinces with new problems, until the final posting lands you in the heart of the empire itself. Along the way you decide everything: where housing goes, how the money flows, how the city defends itself. Some missions ask for steady growth, others for legions and loyalty to Caesar's demands, and a few will make you restart and rethink your whole plan. The career gives your building a direction, and the promotions give it a point.
An economy with real moving parts
The trade side runs deep: more than 30 tradable goods, 10 industries, 4 markets and foreign trade routes to work with. That means choices with consequences. Mine gold, turn it into jewellery, and then find out the hard way that rich patricians who buy jewellery are scarcer than you hoped, while warehouses fill up and your plebs stay poor. Every map pushes a different plan: what to produce, what to import, which routes to open. When the logistics click and carts start flowing between workshops, markets and warehouses, that is the game at its best.
A city that lives at its own pace
This is a city builder to unwind with. Missions are built so you can step away for a cup of tea mid-mission and come back to nothing on fire, and there are no timers pushing you along. The 3D city rewards the slow look: a full day and night cycle, weather rolling through, and over 75 unique characters going about their streets. Click a citizen and they answer back. The music sets a calm, ancient-Roma mood while you tidy road layouts and figure out where the next insula fits. Pressure comes only when you invite it, usually by angering a god.
