Couch co-op built for chaos
Up to three players grab a toad each and storm the stages together, with drop-in, drop-out play so nobody has to restart because a friend showed up late. The game is designed as a shared mess: enemies swarm, stages flip genre mid-run, and the screen turns into exactly the kind of colorful mayhem you want friends around for. Anyone can join in and have fun; only a true 'Toad can master it, which gives your group something to argue about all evening.
Combat with morph attacks
The brawling is over-the-top and combo-driven. You chain hits on swarms of enemies, and the signature trick is the morph attack: a toad's limb turns into something absurd and heavy to land the big blow. Timing matters, because a smash attack used at the wrong moment leaves you open. The fights are fast and readable in bursts, the kind of arcade brawling where you learn an enemy's pattern, punish it, and immediately get thrown into something new.
A stage that never stays one genre
Expect the unexpected is the one rule, and the game means it. A beat 'em up stage gives way to a high-speed bike run, a platforming stretch, a shooting sequence or a puzzle, sometimes all within the same act. The variety is the point: this series was never a pure brawler, and this entry leans all the way into it. Fair warning, the brawling shares the stage time with plenty of minigames and puzzles, so come for the variety as much as the fists. The soundtrack, a punchy mix with retro remixes, carries it all.
