Solve your own murder
The sample story, "Lingering Souls of the Crossing City", starts you off dead. Your soul, Mo Chuanlin, master of the Moqiao Manor, wakes inside a small beggar, and the only way home is to find out who killed you and why. Under that mystery sits a conspiracy, and the story runs about three to four hours to its end, with several endings depending on what you uncover and whom you trust. Along the way you recruit companions, each with their own style, learn from more than ten martial arts and dig through over a hundred items. The tone is grim: a dead man piecing himself together in a city that would rather he stayed dead.
What can you do besides play the sample story?
How does the combat work?
It is turn-based tactics in the classic style: you move a small party across the field, trade blows, and lean on the martial arts you have learned. Which techniques you study matters, since each has its own reach and power, from wide sweeps to single-target strikes. Battles are short and frequent, and levelling a technique from clumsy to mastered is a big part of the pleasure.
Do you need to know the old classics to enjoy it?
No. The sample story stands on its own, and its plot is short enough that a newcomer can treat it as a first taste of the genre. That said, the framework exists because of a beloved 1990s wuxia RPG, and much of the fun for veteran players comes from the old-school design it honours: open exploration, hidden secrets and a world that does not guide you by the hand.
