A planet with a temper
Icarus was meant to be a second Earth. Instead the air turned toxic and the wilderness turned mean. You land to prospect for exotic matter, and everything from apex predators to storms and forest fires tries to wear you down.
Survival here is about planning. You track down oxygen, stalk your next meal, and stockpile supplies before a long push into the wild. Build light and a storm will take the roof with it. Build heavy and you might actually watch the sky go dark and stay dry.
Drop in, build up, get out
You can settle into Open World and forge a claim while completing story quests as operations, or take timed Missions with nothing in your pockets. Land, raise a base from scratch, finish contracts for the factions overhead, mine exotics, and escape before time runs out.
If you want a break from the pressure, Outposts offer safe regions with regenerating resources. That is the place to test layouts, try new workbenches, and build something tall just because you can.
Tame, breed and farm
The wilderness does not have to stay wild. You can hunt native creatures or bring animals down from Earth, earn their trust, and put them to work. Tame mounts to cross rough terrain or guard your camp, breed them to pass down useful traits, and train companions through their own talent trees.
Back at base, set up farms to keep your operation fed and supplied. It turns survival from a daily scramble into something closer to running a very remote, very toothy ranch.
Three tech trees to climb
Progress runs on three tracks at once. Planetary tech moves through four tiers, from hand-made tools to composites and electronics, across 8+ building materials. Player talents offer over 100 picks for exploring, building, farming, hunting, taming and fighting.
Then there is the orbital workshop. Haul exotic matter back up, trade it for advanced gear with unusual properties, and bring that advantage on your next drop. Veterans go down better equipped. Everyone else learns why repair hammers exist.
What else should you know?
How do the story quests work?
The narrative content is the same either way. Play it as operations inside Open World, chained into your ongoing claim, or as separate timed missions where you land with nothing and leave when the job is done.
Can you play with friends?
Yes. Play alone, invite up to 8 Steam friends to your game, or run a dedicated server, which is free to run and recommended for Open World sessions.
What do you actually do on the surface?
Explore, harvest, craft, hunt, build, mine exotics and complete contracts. Tame mounts, breed animals, run farms, unlock talents and tech, then exchange exotics in orbit for better equipment.
What is the world of Icarus?
A failed second Earth. Terraforming collapsed, the air turned toxic, and modified wildlife was left behind. Then prospectors found exotic matter, and a gold rush brought contracts, factions and drops from the orbital station above.
