Stagger them, then hit them harder
Battles are turn-based and tactical. You probe for an enemy weakness, break their defense to stagger them, and cash in the extra turns with Resonance attacks.
Visions change the math. These are echoes of familiar FINAL FANTASY characters, each with unique skills, and you slot them into your party to mix builds and cover gaps. The presentation sells it: pixel characters in 3D scenery, dynamic camera angles, and splashy finishers. The soundtrack is strong, and the slower think-first rhythm is a highlight.
A world map worth wandering
You travel with companions bound by fate across a medieval fantasy world, chasing the truth behind a ruinous force. Expect the old toolkit: airships, crystals, espers, moogles.
Exploration rewards curiosity, with hours of optional fights tucked off the main path. You can hunt down the wandering swordmaster Gilgamesh, test parties in the Colosseum for monsters and matching rewards, crack the Chamber of Arms and its sealed weapons, or take on Ultima Weapon. Save the world, but make time for side quests.
Good to know before you start?
How do Visions work in your party?
Visions are echoes of past FINAL FANTASY characters who fight alongside you. Each brings unique skills and abilities, so collecting more gives you wider party customization and lets you experiment with different combinations.
Is the combat difficult?
The core rules stay accessible: find weaknesses, stagger, take extra turns. An Expert option raises the challenge, with bosses carrying far more health, which suits players who enjoy longer, more demanding fights.
What is there to do besides the main story?
A lot of it is combat-focused. The Colosseum pairs deadly monsters with matching rewards, the Chamber of Arms seals formidable foes inside legendary weapons, and post-game hunts add summons, weapons and hidden Visions for completionists.
