A lost summer found through painting
You are Qicheng, a tabby-cat beastman and former art student who failed his big exam, then lost his office job and came home. Around him are Weiqian, the childhood friend who never quite left, good friends Xihe and Wangshu, and Lie Lie, a younger student from the art studio.
You read straight through their days of sketching, talking, remembering, and misunderstanding each other. Art is everywhere: old drawings, studio life, the choice to pick up the pencil again. The look is cute and cartoony, with hand-drawn 2D characters, and the tone moves between jokes and quiet, emotional scenes. Keep tissues nearby, because the sweet parts land harder after the bitter ones.
What should you know before reading?
How does the story unfold?
It follows one straight path from Qicheng returning home to facing what he left behind that summer. There are no branches to manage, so you can settle in and follow the memories, conversations, and reveals as they come, including an epilogue that shows where everyone lands.
Who are the five around the story?
Qicheng and Weiqian are the heart of it, with Xihe, Wangshu, and Lie Lie shaping much of what happens. Nobody feels like background decoration: friendships, family pressure, and studio life all push the romance forward in different ways.
What role does ice pop play?
It keeps showing up as a small shared object between Qicheng and Weiqian, almost like a private marker of their bond. If you notice it everywhere, that is the point: it is the kind of little thing childhood friends turn into something much bigger.
Is it heavy or light?
Both. Daily life, teasing, and sweet couple moments sit next to job loss, failed exams, fear of being a burden, and fear of not giving enough. The ending aims for warmth and repair rather than tragedy.
